Frank Walter was a wood sculptor and carver of architectural designs whose work decorated the homes of John D. Rockefeller, Sr., Jay Gould and others.

He was born in New York, on October 12, 1879, and died on February 29,1960. For the last almost 40 years of his life he lived at 37-35 94th Street, Jackson Heights (formerly Elmhurst)

Frank Walter's father, George, who died in 1905, was a cabinet maker, i.e., a maker of fine furniture. Frank Walter probably apprenticed with his father and in that process learned how to make fine furniture. This would explain why so much of Frank Walter's sculpture and carving involved structures that he designed and built. The decoration of furniture, etc., would have followed naturally from such an apprenticeship. His interest was Tudor architectural design and he attended The Cooper Union in New York, to expand his expertise in this area.

He was the President of his wood carvers union for nine years. He was an avid fisherman, loving to fish at Coney Island, in Brooklyn and at La Guardia Airport, which was just north of his home, in Jackson Heights. Below are a photo of Frank Walter in 1907, a family photo of Frank Walter, his wife Marie and children, on December 19, 1920, which is about the time the family moved to Elmhurst, a photo of Frank Walter dressed for work, a photo of Frank and Marie Walter taken in the mid 50's, and his death notice in the March 2, 1960, Long Island Star-Journal.

The Wood Carvings and Wood Sculptures of Frank Walter at Bethany Lutheran Church, Elmhurst, NewYork

A. Bethany Lutheran Church

The church, which is located at 48-08 91st Place, Elmhurst, New York 11373-4027, was dedicated November 11, 1927. The church is Tudor in design. "Tudor" defines a period from 1485 until 1605, which is the last sub-period within the overall "Gothic" period.

Five common features of Tudor exterior design are:
1. Stucco facade,
2. Towers,
3. Rectangular windows,
4. Polychromatic masonry (the tower at the corner of the building, the front door, the side wall columns and side doorways are made of brick, granite and stucco), and
5. Stained glass windows (Only the two front windows were stained glass when the church was completed).

The stucco presently is in the process of repair, undercoating and painting with the front door painted the final gold color. The post card shows the church as completed without stained glass windows in the nave.

Alas, he's really rather emo. But produced the way I imagine George Martin might have as a toddler. Very repetitive arrangements with little subtlety, but very nice instrumentation and the raw ideas are quite cool. But I couldn't help thinking "he's really a christian rock dude who crosses over to the cool". SURE ENOUGH! He has a bunch of xmas covers out there and the lord permeates his songs...heavily.

So I'll keep his Rubber Soul cover and leave the rest.

If I were a salmon in a creek,
I think I would be worried if I knew what was coming
yeah, it might be a problem

I - need cool waters
Cooler than about 72 degrees
I - get into trouble
I become stressed
and vulnerable to disease
and I’ll stop migrating

Spring chinook and summer steelhead
in the rivers today

Right this minute, salmon are OK.
But if the rest of the summer stays dry,
streams will become shallower.
If we have really hot weather,
then those stream temperatures can start heading toward stressful.

The stage is set
for a relative squeeze
on cold stream flow
Cold streams serve
both rearing juveniles
and migrating adults
of many salmon populations
that come in during late summer
and early fall

I - need cool waters
Cooler than about 72 degrees
I - get into trouble
I become stressed
and vulnerable to disease
and I’ll stop migrating
